Old-school navigation meets tech what’s your go-to?

So, I finally decided to throw Gaia GPS into the mix with my trusty old paper maps, compass, and altimeter. And let me tell you, it's been a lifesaver for double-checking where the heck I am! I still hold a special place in my heart for the classics, though. Just the other day, I missed a crucial canyon turn while I was on the hunt for a mine claim. Nothing says 'adventure' like wandering off course, right? I'm really hoping that having offline maps will keep me from turning that little detour into an epic saga next time

Is anyone else out there using Gaia or any other navigation app for their backcountry escapades? I'm super curious about what you all find works and maybe what doesn't. Let's swap some mishaps and victories

For me, Gaia is a reallyyy good backup. I love the offline map feature when you're deep in nowhere. It's a MUST. I hate losing connection and then losing myself (literally) in the wild because of it. It feels like a paper map, and it's just upgraded since it's new tech that saves your butt. Had my fair share of "oops" moments but nothing really worth saying here so let me just, follow this thread for more.

Why did you decide on Gaia GPS over something like OnX or AllTrails, was it the offline features, topo detail, or just personal preference from what you'd heard?

I’m in the same camp as you guys. Gaia’s offline maps have saved me more than once when I zigged instead of zagged, but I still like having paper as a sanity check. Curious though @TwoWheelsTooSlow, have you played with OnX at all or just stuck with Gaia so far?
