I have a stainless header and guard off an old TTR225 I'm planning to fit on my 2000 TW. The pipe is in great shape but it does need a little cleanup. I just have some questions before trimming the muffler end to match up. Is the stock TTR heat shield stainless too? Also, for those who tried already, did you guys swap out the exhaust gaskets during install?

The stock TTR225 heat shield is usually stainless, but it can vary by year, so a quick magnet test should confirm. If youre fitting the header to your 2000 TW, it's a good idea to replace the exhaust gaskets during install to avoid leaks, most people who've done this swap recommend it. Are you planning to reuse the stock TW muffler or going aftermarket?

I assisted my cousin in installing a TTR header on his TW a few years back, and we learned the hard way that neglecting to use new gaskets resulted in a persistent hissing leak. A quick run to the shop for some fresh gaskets and it was all sorted out beautifully.

Swapping parts from a TTR225 onto a TW is one of the smarter DIY upgrades...better flow and durability. But trimming without confirming fitment is risky and yes, always replace the exhaust gaskets, reusing them is just asking for leaks.
