I'm rebuilding my 1993 tw200 engine and just wanted to ask if i can use the xt225 gears on the tw200 output shaft?

It is possible yes, but you'll need a lot of modifications to be sure that you have compatibility and optimal performance. It requires a lot of machining so i suggest you take it to the shop, just for precision.

Yep, the XT225 gears can be used on the TW200 and actually the 6-seed gearset is a very common mod for ours if you're all about max highway performance. I guess you can swap the full transmission so it's better and safer? Maybe have a check with your dealer.

Why would you want to swap the gears? sure, the XT225 gears might fit on the TW200 output shaft, but you're messing with the whole balance of the bike. The TW200 and XT225 are different animals in terms of gearing and setup though I hope you're sure that's the upgrade you want

so everyone I asked, not just on this forum say that it's not an easy job and you say it is and it's common. Care to share some info on this?

The gears from an XT225 won't fit right onto a TW200's output shaft since they have differen designs and sizes. Some people opt for a counter shaft adapter from companies like Bradley Performance to make XT225 parts compatible with a TW200. If you're looking to upgrade, I'd suggest checking out those kits or chatting with a mechanic who's familiar with Yamaha dual-sports
